To your health!
Healthy Acadia, a nonprofit partnering with more than 100 groups, is offering six free classes about how to prepare healthy, inexpensive meals on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, Sept. 6-Oct.11 in Sedgwick.
“Cooking Matters teaches healthy eating habits, cooking skills, food shopping and budgeting through a fun and hands-on learning experience,” said Nikki Fox, Healthy Acadia’s Hancock County nutrition education coordinator.
Taught by Fox, the classes will be held at the Benjamin River Apartments, 39 Reach St. in Sedgwick. Free take-home ingredients will be provided each week for participants to recreate one of the lesson’s recipes at home. A recipe book and other helpful kitchen tools also will be given to participants upon their completion of the program to support cooking at home and more healthful living.
To sign up for the series, contact Fox at 667-7171 or email her at [email protected].
Seeking healthy recipes
Milbridge’s Women’s Health Resource Library is seeking healthy recipes that tie into its Incrediable Edible Project’s free-for-the-picking gardens in front of the U.S. post office, Red Barn Motel, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust and other businesses around town.
As part of the project, the library is sharing recipes each week for the fresh produce in season on its website at www.whrl.org. At year’s end, the recipes will be compiled into an Incredible Edible cookbook. The names of those submitting recipes will be entered in a drawing for a $100 Hannaford gift card.
To submit recipes, visit http://www.whrl.org/iem/recipe/ or call 546-7677.
