MDH State Fair booth shows ways to make a healthy community lifestyle – Sun Focus

This year’s Minnesota Department of Health booth at the State Fair will show community members where to start when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. Rather than one’s own individual decisions, good health is created in community lifestyle as a whole. Such things like building more bike paths, promoting affordable housing, and encouraging paid family leave are just a few factors that contribute to living a healthy and well-balanced life.

“We are fortunate in Minnesota to have a world-class health care system, but we also know that our health is about much more than what happens at the clinic or hospital,” said Minnesota Commissioner of Health Dr. Ed Ehlinger. “With this year’s display, we’re challenging some of those perceptions to help people see how individual health is affected by housing, transportation, education and so many other aspects of community life.”
The booth is located in the Education Building, north of Dan Patch Avenue on Cosgrove Street, and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Other booths that MDH is hosting include Eco Experience, located in the Eco Experience building at the corner of Randall Avenue and Cooper Street. As the second most-visited exhibit at the fair, MDH will be educating fairgoers about saving energy, climate change, healthy local food, and more tips on living an eco-friendly life.

The MDH Newborn Screening booth will be in the Health Fair 11 building in the East Crossroads auditorium. This booth will educate those interested in the life-saving screening program that is offered in Minnesota.

This year’s Lactation Station will be located on the west side of Underwood Street, which will offer a comfortable and quiet place for women who wish to breastfeed or pump in privacy.
