A workout center is on the way to northwest Rochester.
Matt Jewison is working on transforming about 7,000-square-feet in the River Center Plaza at 1629 N. Broadway into his new Anytime Fitness gym. He hopes to open the new exercise facility by late fall, possibly in November.
The new Anytime Fitness is going into the space which housed Nova Academy of Cosmetology from 2006 until it recently moved. Barb Phelps and LeighAnn Peltoma, of Paramark Real Estate Services, handled the deal to bring Anytime into the empty spot.
Jewison predicts opening a franchise of the Minnesota-based national chain will be a good fit.
“Anytime is the fastest growing fitness franchise, and it’s a great company,” he said. “Anytime models itself around the betterment of people. More than just a gym, they like to be a community.”
The concept of Anytime Fitness is a 24-hour exercise center, which members can access whenever with electronic key fobs. It features a lineup of cardio machines, free weights and circuit training equipment. Membership at Anytime Fitness club provides members with access to any of their almost 3,000 clubs in the U.S. and internationally.
The gyms are staffed more than 40 hours per week, during peak use times. There will be a manager and membership director on staff. A personal trainer will be available for members looking for some help. “On-demand” video classes also will be available for members in a studio.
The Rochester location will offer tanning services as well as three private bathrooms with showers for member use.
Jewison’s project marks the return of Anytime to the Rochester market. One of their gyms previously operated in the T.J. Maxx & More Plaza from 2004 to 2006. — Jeff Kiger
