5 Korean beauty tips to cleanse your face like a pro – AsiaOne

Washing our faces is second nature to most of us. But as we’ve been washing our faces since we were little, not everyone thinks about whether their face-washing routine is truly helpful or harmful.

And who better than the Koreans to teach us the correct face-washing techniques? Their dewy complexions and pore-free have redefined beauty standards women everywhere aspire to.

Get It Beauty, a popular variety show that shares everything from beauty trends and concerns about make-up, skincare to workout guides in Korea, makes it easy to access this wealth of beauty know-how and easy-to-follow insider tips.

A recent episode featured people on the streets asking questions about skin cleansing during summer. A professional make-up artist and a dermatologist were invited to provide expert advice during the show.

The result? Audiences are treated to beauty tips that are easy to follow. Here are the 5 questions about skin cleansing that were posed to the experts and their answers:

1. Can we wash our faces using only water?

Answer: Don’t skip your facial washing products, even on non-makeup days. Dirt, sebum and sweat builds up on skin throughout the day, and using a cleanser washes off all that grime more effectively before bedtime. Having said that, washing your face with only water in the morning is acceptable as skin is exposed to less pollutants.

2. Should I use a facial brush as part of my cleansing routine?

Answer; If you have used facial brushes before and find them irritating on your skin, the key to using them is to be gentle and soft, so that they do not hurt skin. Facial brushes come in a wide variety, including electronic versions.

3. Can men and women share cleansing products?

Answer: No. Men generally have thicker skin and produce more sebum than women. So women will find it discomforting if they use products meant for men.

4. Should I use my facial cleansing oil on wet skin for a better cleanse?

Answer: Don’t mix cleansing oil with water to cleanse off any make-up. Instead, use cleansing oil on a dry face to remove all traces of make-up, then wash off the oil with water for an effective cleanse.

5. Do I have to wash my face twice to thoroughly remove sunblock?

Answer: When removing sunblock from your face, make sure to wash your face twice. Use an oil-based cleanser, followed by a water-based cleanser. Chemical compounds such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are added to sunblocks to deflect UV rays, but they also adhere to skin and get into pores. Double cleansing skin will remove the sunblock completely.

The show doesn’t end there. It has its fair share of Korean celebrities making guest appearances too. Watch for a special guest appearance by model Eu Ddeum, who shares her very own daily cleansing and beauty routine. Don’t miss out on the segment where the show’s guest make-up artist creates a wearable everyday look for Eu Ddeum that can be easily recreated by the rest of us.

The show also features the “Blind Test” segment, where testers review and give their verdicts on a wide range of beauty products without revealing any brand names, providing a reliable standard on beauty products. It is highly welcomed among female viewers and the beauty industry.
